In 2007 my partner and I were unhappy with the situation we found ourselves in with our chapter in STARFLEET, The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. (SFI). I was the Executive Officer to a Commanding Officer who seemed intent on ignoring everything I had to contribute to the chapter and openly hostile to my partner. The CO ended up kicking my partner out of the chapter which left me in a difficult position: Do I continue on in the chapter and hope for the best for my partner or do I leave the chapter in support of him. We were discussing our options before he was kicked out because we saw it coming for a while prior to it happening. We knew we really only had two options if we wanted to remain in SFI, find a new existing chapter to join or start our own chapter.
I have been in STARFLEET since October of 2003. At the time I had been a member for 3 1/2 years. My chapter at the time was only my second chapter. I had some idea of the workings of a chapter in 'FLEET but not much about the rest of the organization. That chapter was a new chapter and I had been involved with getting it started and certified by STARFLEET. In fact my partner and I are both plank certificate owner of that chapter. I knew that I could handle starting a chapter. The hardest part would be recruiting new members. At our highest level we had twenty members. Right now we have nine members. We need to have ten to be considered up to strength.
On Friday, June 28, 2013 we will celebrate our five year anniversary as a commissioned chapter of STARFLEET. We have had our struggles along the way but it has mostly be a fun ride. Can't wait for the next five years!

We had a lot of topics on the agenda this month. We covered all of them except one and all in an hour. This meetings was abreviated due to Siran having to go to work early the next day. We decided to move the beginning time up to 8 pm CT for future official meetings due to work schedules.
One of the decision made during the meeting was to form a Marine Strike Group (MSG) on board the Vre'kasht. Details can be found on the forum about it. LT T'sohg will be the Officer In Charge (OIC). The Marines do love their acronyms.
It was also decided to participate in a ship-wide Trivia Tournament. i will set it up so it will start on May 1st. It is a daily quiz that will be available 7 days a week. If a person wishes to join in, they will need to create an account with FunTrivia.com.

Apparently our decision to change the night of the meeting was a good one. We had eight crew members in attendance at the March meeting.
We had a fun, productive meeting. Everything on the agenda was covered in less than two hours. I think that was a first for us.
The coming months should be a busy and exciting time for us. The new Star Trek movie is coming out on May 8, 2009. Trek Fest and our ship's 1 year anniversary of Commissioning are both on the same weekend of June. We Commissioned on June 28, 2008. Trek Fest is always the last weekend of June. On a personal note June 28 also marks the one year anniversary of my, and Siran's, promotions to Captain and Commander, respectively.

We had an excellent meeting last night. We didn't have all of our members in attendance, but we had a good number of them. Using Yahoo! Messenger allowed T'Mynn and T'sogh to join the meeting. it had been a long time since we could chat with either of them. Due to their ongoing computer issues, we will continue to have our official meetings on Yahoo! Messenger in order to allow full participation.
Our newest member, ENS Michael Conard, was in attendance and felt comfortable enough to speak up and voice his opinion. We had some good discussion about several agenda items.
I had the honor of promoting two members during the meeting. ENS Brian Wiskus was promoted tp Lieutenant(junior grade) and CRMN Michael Conard was promoted to Ensign. Congratulation, Brian and Michael! Keep up the good work.

Once again, our last meeting only had 2 crew members in attendance. This meeting was even on Yahoo! chat, not IMVU. I really don't know what else to do. I have told everyone that we won't be meeting every week until after the first of the year. Maybe a break in meetings will help to get people to come back.
I hope every one will have a safe and happy holiday season.

It was with a heavy heart I heard that Majel Barrett-Roddenberry had passed away. I never had the chance to meet her. I wish I had. We've never had any big conventions in my area. it will be bittersweet to hear her voice as the computer in the new movie next year. Another star has gone out in the Trek universe. May God bless and comfort the Roddenberry family.

This was posted to the Region Six Yahoo Group list on June 28. Admiral Urvand mentions there will be an official notice, that has not happened in the week since this was first posted. I doubt it will ever happen.

As you can tell from the title of this blog, I am Vulcan. And mention of Vulcan or Vulcans catches my attention. Spock was my favorite character on the original series.

Fascinating — four syllables and one arched eyebrow — that's Spock, just as much as his pointy Vulcan ears.
The first time actor Leonard Nimoy said the word was in an episode where the crew of the USS Enterprise faced a strange, sinister entity. No matter where the ship turned, the object managed to be in their way. The bridge was on high alert — so Nimoy shouted out his next line with the same energy: "Fascinating!"
"The director, God bless him, said be different from everyone else," Nimoy remembers. So on the next take: "Fascinating," in that cool, collected way.

A cool site.
I found this cool site linked to from the Where's George? forum, my other hobby. It is called My Mini City. A person can create their own city or just visit any city every day and that will increase the population or which ever link is clicked. As the city grows the buildings increase on the page for the city. My city is called Vulkansu. As I write this the population is one. Help me out and grow my city! As the city grows the other links become available so that other city functions can grow too.

No big bang: Asteroid will miss Mars
PASADENA, Calif. - The possibility of a collision between Mars and an approaching asteroid has been effectively ruled out, according to scientists watching the space rock.
Tracking measurements of asteroid 2007 WD5 taken from four observatories have greatly reduced uncertainties about its Jan. 30 close approach to Mars so that the odds of impact have dropped to 1 in 10,000, the Near-Earth Object Program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said in a posting on its Web site Thursday.
Scientists said the best estimate was for the asteroid to pass at a distance of more than 16,000 miles from the surface of Mars, or at worst, no closer than 2,480 miles.
The asteroid was discovered in November. Initial observations of its orbit raised the odds of an impact to as high as 1 in 25 before further refinements came in.
The asteroid is big enough to have blasted a half-mile-wide crater in the cold and dusty Martian surface, an event that astronomers would have liked to observe.
The NEO program normally looks for asteroids and comets that could pose a hazard to Earth.

launching the USS Vre'kasht NCC-33187 and have forwarded them onto RADM Tien
at Shakedown Operations. The Vre'kasht is under the command of Commander
T'Plon, with Lt. JG Siran as her Executive Officer.
Commander T'Plon, I hereby release the Vre'kasht from her moorings under
your command. Please keep her at Station Keeping within the Starbase's
defensive perimeter until you've received your orders from RADM Tien to
start your shakedown.
